About Mid-Century; Modern — Fall ’16 at UMass

This blog will mainly be used in fall of 2016 to introduce my new cultural studies course at UMass Amherst: “Mid-Century; Modern — International Modernism from the Bomb to Sputnik”

The course explores the “look” that is associated with the period from 1945 into the mid-1950s, and especially the importance of Scandinavian design and the legacy of the Bauhaus in German in the period.

Various questions and themes will be posted on the blog for now, so that potential participants in the seminar can get an idea of where it will go and share ideas on projects they will be working on.
